About

Handgun Safety Australia is an independent educational resource for Australians interested in lawful handgun target shooting. Our aim is to make the first steps easier to understand while keeping safety, official guidance and responsible participation at the centre.

What you can find here

  • an orientation to the licensing pathway in each state and territory;
  • plain-language safety learning modules;
  • introductions to recognised handgun match disciplines; and
  • a growing directory of Australian handgun and pistol clubs.

Independent education

We do not sell firearms, issue licences, represent a police registry or replace approved training. The website provides general education, not legal advice. Firearms laws and administrative requirements change, and the relevant police registry, legislation and approved club remain authoritative.

Safety first

Safe conduct is more important than convenience or speed. Treat every firearm as loaded, keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, keep your finger outside the trigger guard until ready to fire, and know your target and what is beyond it. Follow every lawful direction given by range officers, instructors and police.

Keeping information current

We link to official sources wherever practical and review material as requirements evolve. Readers should confirm current forms, fees, waiting periods, participation requirements and storage rules directly with the relevant authority before acting.
